Custom Built Homes
American Tidewater–inspired cottage - Highlands, NC
About the project

Designed and built as a fully custom residence, this 4,250-square-foot home is a thoughtful study in restraint, proportion, and materiality. Every element—from the massing and detailing to the interior flow—was developed specifically for this site, resulting in a house that feels both distinctive and deeply rooted in place.

The architecture blends the clarity and simplicity of Scandinavian modern design with the warmth and familiarity of an early American Tidewater–inspired cottage. Clean lines, dark exterior finishes, and carefully scaled openings give the home a quiet confidence, while traditional forms and inviting interior spaces ground it in a sense of history and livability.

Rather than chasing trends, the design draws from enduring architectural principles—balance, light, and craftsmanship—creating a home that feels contemporary yet timeless. The result is a residence that stands apart through intention and execution, not excess: unmistakably custom, yet comfortably belonging to a broader family of refined mountain homes.
