Tucked into the rhododendron-lined slopes of the Nantahala National Forest, this minimalist art studio was designed as a quiet retreat for focused creative work. Finished in black and inspired by Scandinavian restraint, the structure balances clean geometry with the softness of its wooded surroundings.
The studio sits lightly within the landscape, offering a sense of separation without isolation—a place to step away, slow down, and make things with intention. Just outside, a simple fire pit extends the space beyond its walls, creating a natural gathering point for reflection after long days in the studio.
Built in 2023, this project explores contrast: dark exterior against dense green forest, modern lines softened by natural textures, and solitude paired with warmth. A small escape designed to belong exactly where it stands.
